- what it was
- who gave it to you and why
- how you broke it
- and explain how you felt when you broke it
Start
I'd like to talk about a beautiful glass vase. It was a present, and I'm still a bit sad that I broke it.
What it was
It was a blue glass vase, hand-made by a famous glass artist. It had small white flowers painted on it, and it looked lovely in the sunlight.
Who gave it and why
My aunt gave it to me when I moved into my first apartment. She said every new home needs something beautiful, and she knew I love the colour blue.
How you broke it
About a year later, I was cleaning the living room. I was moving the table, and I didn't notice that the vase was near the edge. It fell onto the floor and broke into many pieces.
How you felt
I felt terrible. It wasn't only because it was expensive, but because it was a gift from my aunt. I didn't know how to tell her. In the end, I told her the truth, and she just laughed and said, "It's only glass." Her reaction made me feel much better, and I learned to be more careful.

Are there any famous markets or stores in your city that attract tourists?
Yes, the old bazaar is the most famous. Tourists love it because it's very old, with brick roofs and narrow paths. You can buy carpets, spices, dried fruit and handicrafts there. Even if you don't buy anything, just walking through it is an experience.

How has gift-giving changed since your grandparents' time?
In my grandparents' time, presents were simple, like home-made food, fabric or a little money. People didn't give presents very often, only on big occasions. Today, we give presents more often, and they're more expensive. Also, we buy many of them online.

Have people become more materialistic about gifts than in the past?
