I'm taking it because I'd like to work abroad for a few years. Many hospitals in other countries need nurses, but they ask for a good IELTS score. It would be a great chance to learn new skills and see a different health system.

Part 2 · Cue card
A person who was your childhood hero
You get 1 minute to prepare and then speak for 1 to 2 minutes. Follow the four points on the card in order.
Candidate task card
Describe a person who was your childhood hero.
You should say:
- who he or she was
- whether he or she is still your hero
- why you considered him or her your hero
- and say what influence he or she had on you as a child
Start
I'd like to talk about my childhood hero, Ali Daei. He's a famous football player from my country.
Who he was
He was the captain of our national football team. For many years, he had the world record for the most international goals. Every child in my street wanted to be like him.
Is he still your hero
He's not exactly my hero now, because I see the world differently as an adult. But I still respect him a lot, and I smile when I see him on TV.
Why he was your hero
He was my hero because he was strong and never gave up. Also, he came from a normal family, and he became famous through hard work. As a child, that made me believe that anyone can reach their dreams.
His influence on you
Because of him, I started playing football every day after school. I even wore a shirt with his number on it for years. He taught me to practise hard and to work as part of a team. Those lessons still help me today.

- through hard workby working hard
- reach their dreamsget what they dream about

Part 3 · Discussion
Heroes and role models
Longer answers. About 30 to 45 seconds. Give your opinion, explain why, and give an example.
What happens when young people don't have good role models?
They may copy bad examples, for example from social media or from older kids in the street. They may think that money and fame are the only important things. Without good role models, it's harder for young people to set good goals for their lives.
- copy bad examplesdo the same as bad people
- money and famefame = being very famous
- set good goalsdecide good things to aim for
Why are our childhood heroes different from our adult heroes?
As children, we admire people who are strong, famous or exciting, like athletes and superheroes. As adults, we understand life better. So we admire people who are kind, honest or brave in real life, like a parent, a teacher or a doctor.
- As children, … As adults, …compare two times of life
- we understand life betterwe have more experience
- brave in real lifebrave in normal situations
How are real-life heroes different from heroes in comics and films?
Heroes in comics have special powers, like flying, and they always win. Real-life heroes are normal people. They don't have superpowers, and sometimes they're afraid. But they still do the right thing, which I think makes them even more admirable.
- special powersabilities that normal people don't have
- they always winthey never lose
- do the right thingact in a good way
- admirabledeserving respect
Can musicians and athletes be good role models for young people?
Yes, they can, but not all of them. Many athletes show discipline, hard work and teamwork, which are great examples. But some famous people behave badly, and young people may copy them. So parents should help children choose the right people to admire.
- Yes, they can, but not all of them.a balanced answer
- disciplinethe ability to control yourself and work hard
- behave badlyact in a bad way
- choose the right people to admirepick good role models
How can parents be good role models for their children?
Parents should do what they say. If they want their children to read, they should read too. If they want them to be polite, they should be polite to others. Children watch their parents all the time, so small actions teach them a lot.
- do what they sayact the same as their words
- they should read toodo it themselves
- small actions teach them a lotlittle things are important
Some people say you should never meet your heroes. Do you agree?
I partly agree. When you meet your hero, you may find out that they're just a normal person, with problems and bad habits. That can be disappointing. But sometimes, meeting your hero can be very inspiring, especially if they're kind and humble.
- I partly agree.agree with some of it
- find outdiscover
