Part 1 · Interview
Your favourite place
Short answers. About 20 to 30 seconds each. Answer, give a reason, add one detail.
What place do you most like to visit?
I most like to visit a small café in the old part of my city. It's in a traditional house with a courtyard and a small fountain. It's my favourite place to read or meet a friend.
- I most like to visit…answer directly
- a courtyardan open space inside a building
- my favourite place to…the place I like best for
How often do you visit this place?
I go there about once a week, usually on Thursday afternoons. Sometimes I go more often, especially when I need a quiet place to think or work on my laptop.

- a quiet place to thinka calm place
Why do you like it so much?
I like it because it's peaceful, even though it's in the city centre. The sound of the fountain is relaxing, and the coffee is excellent. The staff know me now, and they always remember my order.

Has it changed much since you first went there? In what way?
A little. When I first went there, it was almost unknown. Now it's become popular on Instagram, so it's busier, especially at the weekend. They've also added more tables. But the atmosphere is still the same.

- the atmosphere is still the samethe feeling hasn't changed
Part 2 · Cue card
A useful website you have visited
You get 1 minute to prepare and then speak for 1 to 2 minutes. Follow the four points on the card in order.
Candidate task card
Describe a useful website you have visited.
You should say:
- what the website was
- how you found out about it
- what the website contained
- and explain why it was useful to you
Start
I'd like to talk about a website called Duolingo. It's a website and an app for learning languages.
What it is
It's a free language-learning platform. You can learn more than thirty languages there, like English, Spanish and French.
How you found it
A friend recommended it to me about two years ago. She was learning Spanish with it, and she said it was fun, like a game. So I decided to try it for English.
What it contains
It has short lessons, about five minutes each, with reading, listening, speaking and writing exercises. You get points for each lesson, and there's a 'streak', which shows how many days in a row you've practised. You can also compete with friends.
Why it was useful
It was useful because it helped me practise every day, even when I was very busy. Five minutes is easy to find. My vocabulary improved a lot, and I became more confident with grammar. Of course, it can't replace real conversation, but it was a great way to build a daily habit.

Part 3 · Discussion
The internet, communication and shopping
Longer answers. About 30 to 45 seconds. Give your opinion, explain why, and give an example.
What effect has the internet had on the way people communicate?
It has made communication much faster and cheaper. We can talk to anyone, anywhere, at any time, often for free. But people now write shorter messages and talk face to face less. Some conversations have become less personal.
- anyone, anywhere, at any timeno limits
- face to facein person
- less personalless close and warm
How reliable is information from the internet? What about online news?
It depends on the source. Websites of universities and well-known news agencies are usually reliable. But on social media, there's a lot of false information. So it's important to check where information comes from and compare different sources.
- It depends on the sourceit depends where it comes from
- news agenciesbig organisations that collect news
- compare different sourcescheck several places
Why do some people shop online, and why don't others?
People shop online because it's convenient and often cheaper, and they can compare prices easily. Others don't, because they want to see and touch products first, or they don't trust online payments. Some older people also find websites difficult to use.
- it's convenientit's easy and saves time
- see and touch products firstcheck products in person
- don't trust online paymentsworry about paying online
What kinds of things are easy to buy and sell online? Can you give examples?
Things with standard sizes are easy, like books, electronics and phone accessories. Second-hand things are also easy to sell online, like old furniture or bikes. Clothes are harder, because you can't try them on first.
- standard sizesnormal sizes that don't change
- phone accessoriesextra things for phones, like cases
- you can't try them on firstyou can't check the size before buying
Will online shopping be more or less popular in the future? Why?
Definitely more popular. Delivery is getting faster, and websites are getting easier to use. Young people are used to shopping online. In the future, maybe drones will deliver products to our homes in an hour.
- Definitely more popular.a strong prediction

Why is the internet used more and more for communication?
Because it's cheap, fast and easy. Almost everyone has a smartphone now. You can send photos, videos and voice messages, not only text. And you can talk to a whole group at once, which is useful for families and work.
